Fantagraphics Bookstore & Gallery  Please join us on Saturday, April 13 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM for an exhibition of watercolors and drawings by Mexican multimedia artist Charles Glaubitz as he launches the second volume of his metaphysical graphic novel Starseeds . Also appearing is award-winning cartoonist and illustrator Leela Corman, co-founder of Sequential Artists Workshop in Gainesville, Florida. Glaubitz’s Starseeds emerged from a series of narrative paintings on modern mythology. His subsequent graphic novel is informed by sources such as Joseph Campbell, Jack Kirby, Robert Anton Wilson, and the Mayan Aztec Codex – a fascinating and fluid meditation on the human condition. Glaubitz will exhibit recent watercolor works related to the book. This event will also introduce a Starseeds-branded hot sauce from HOSA, a Bellingham-based boutique condiment company co-founded by Fantagraphics art director Jacob Covey. New York artist Leela Corman returns to Seattle in advance of the Trailer Blaze women artists retreat sponsored by Short Run. Prairie Underground Presents Nancy Jones. This series of watercolors references our human need for meaning using configured codes both familiar and new, creating complex moods with dialects of representational scenes with overlaid motifs and auratic light. The logos, more arbitrary and simplified appear to be the connecting narrative between the figures, detached and distant, allowing a space for reflection, while auratic light works with semblance.

Oxbow Presents Polaris by Chanee Choi.   Artist reception 6-8 pm, Public performance 7:00 PM. Gallery hours 4/18-4/27 Thursday-Saturday 5-8 pm

Polaris is an immersive experience by Chanee Choi, incorporating neon, sculpture, video games, wearable tech, embroidery and movement.  The work is inspired by starlight and our existence in the universe. Choi proposes that each of us has a signal within us that we can use to communicate with other worlds.  Our signal connects us to the universe, and could be something we can see, feel, or touch. Choi creates a space for us discover the signal within through interactive video installations, and many interactive sources of light – LED, neon, and video projection. Like footsteps echoing in a cave, your movement through Polaris will be echoed in the light as it reacts to your presence. There are 2 butoh performances for the show. The first one is in the opening reception on 4/13, and 4/19. Two performers wear LED costumes that interact with their movement.

The Shed  Part II: BEASTS (THE LAST DREAM OF THE BEAST) , the art of Christopher Petersen durational performance installation, April 13 , 6:30-8:30 PM…a theatrical work… an electronic media drama in which both music and images will be visceral, clearly articulated, forceful and at times violent. THE BEAST (a creature caught between man and beast) believes a poetic theory that if one dies while dreaming, that dream becomes infinite. He fantasizes a beautiful ‘beast woman’ who, blind and armless, falls in love with him. The ending aria is their final love moment in which he dies in his sleep.
