Her vivacious signature collages, made from found packaging and acrylic manipulated into a shallow bas relief space, likewise emphasize color and texture in layers that suggest a playful exploration of space.

Gina Siciliano presents I Know What I Am: The Life and Times of Artemisia Gentileschi. In her debut graphic novel, Gina Siciliano brings to life the tumultuous 17th-century cities of Rome, Florence, Naples, and Venice where the fearless Artemisia Gentileschi braved the male-dominated sphere of painting to become a groundbreaking artist. I Know What I Am paints a complex, feminist portrait of Artemisia as a single mother, a sexual assault survivor, and a pioneering practitioner of her craft. The event features an exhibition of Siciliano’s original art, sketches, research material, and related ephemera.

On view through November 5. Opening reception Saturday, October 12, 6:00 – 9:00 PM. Artist talk at 7:00 PM.

She returned in 1989 for a residency sponsored by Seattle’s Center on Contemporary Art (CoCA), which inspired and gave momentum to the Riot Grrrl feminist movement.

The Georgetown Liquor Company  presents the Art of Krissy Downing, showing from 9 March – 7 May 2017. “I revel in the moments that hover between asleep and awake, when what’s left of dreams is winding its way out the dimly grayed space where our heads lay and just before all the colors bleed from our mystical beings… My work is born from these moments.” – Krissy Downing
