Prairie Underground These Days-1999-Untill-Forever, Doug Newman

“I arrived in Seattle in 1999 and started taking pictures right away of my friends, my lover Jason, my community. Now looking back, these informal moments marked my life. So informal then, visual history locked in time and place now. Some of us grew up, some of us moved in, some gone. 15 years of C-Print color photographs will be pulled to build this memory of ‘These Days-1999-Untill-Forever'”. – Doug(las) P. Newman

Oxbow  presents I am the Shadow of the Image of my person. Through a large-scale interactive sound and video installation, artist-composers James Borchers and Jeremy Jolley explore questions about identity and representation in the age of advanced technology.  Infrared sensors, multichannel speakers, and software generate an interactive experience featuring video projections of performing musicians from the Seattle Modern Orchestra. As visitors move through the space, the images and sounds are altered.  Visitors can enter a small dodechahedron-shaped room to immerse themselves in an audio-video collage of those same players. There will also be a live concert with the musicians, in dialog with the installation. Through its presentation of altering human forms playing their instruments, the piece becomes part performance and part digital play, invoking both dialogic and meditative experience, and calling into question what we know to be real.

Opening Reception May 4, 7pm. Open during Art Attack May 12, 6-9pm. Performance by Seattle Modern Orchestra May 26, 7pm.
